The Ministry of Education School Incentive Award is not only measured from academic achievement but also from the achievement of every individual student from an early stage that will contribute to the improvement of school achievement to a better level. In an interview, several teachers shared strategies that they have carried out until excellent results are achieved.
Dayangku Hajah Norahizan binti Pengiran Haji Bungsu, Principal of Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School said that firstly the school shared with the students this year's targets. This was followed by other programmes such as the technic workshop programme whereby the students were taught on how to answer examination papers. In addition, extra classes were given in the afternoon as well as other days such as Fridays and during school holidays.
Meanwhile, Dayang Jusita binti Haji Abdul Rahman, Headmistress of Datu Ratna Haji Muhammad Jaafar Primary School in Kiarong said that they first identified the academic status of pupils from Years 5 and 6. Secondly they held a discussion session with Year 6 teachers and carried out a differentiation of teaching and learning in class in all subjects especially for core subjects namely Malay language, English language, mathematics, Science and MIB. Teachers are also given a staff development plan directed to core subjects in order for the teachers to get-together and discuss ways of further improving the performance and achievement of every subject. But most importantly, what is needed is solid support from the parents and the school's Parent-teacher Association.
