According to Radio Television Brunei, numerous families gathered at Muslim cemeteries in the Brunei Muara District as early as 9 in the morning. They participated in the reading of Surah Yasin and Tahlil, accompanied by prayers seeking forgiveness for the deceased. The visits are a solemn occasion, and Muslims are reminded to observe proper cemetery etiquette and respect the surrounding areas.
The tradition extended to the Tutong District, where residents spent the first day of Syawal visiting cemeteries. This practice serves as a spiritual reminder of mortality and the afterlife, encouraging reflection on the transient nature of worldly life.
