This year's National Day Parade carries the theme "Our Singapore", which emphasises the collective ownership of all the citizens over their country and its future. In addition, the theme is seen as a fitting commemoration of the country's Bicentennial which marks the 200th anniversary of the arrival of Sir Stamford Raffles in Singapore in 1819 - one of the historic moments of modern Singapore.
The celebration also reflects on the journey of Singapore's history over the past 700 years, which provides valuable lessons and experiences that can be used as motivation and encouragement to develop the country even further. In addition, the Bicentennial also presents Singaporeans the opportunity to reminisce on the good deeds and the contributions of their forebears as the benchmark to build Singapore for future generations to come.
The celebration of the Singapore Bicentennial at the Padang this year was further enlivened with various performances that showcase Singapore's development and achievements as a developed country, which can be a source of pride for present and future generations.
