More than 3 thousand orphans in the Brunei Muara district received donations through the National Orphans Fund under the Community Development Department, JAPEM, in preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. The donation presentation ceremony was held yesterday morning at the Plenary Hall of the International Convention Centre in Berakas.
At the ceremony, 21 students comprising orphans received prizes from the Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, BIBD Excellent Student Incentive Scheme, following their excellent achievements in the 'O' Level, 'A' Level, Brunei Religious Education Higher Certificate, STPUB, Brunei Religious Education Certificate, SPUB and the Primary School Assessment Examination, PSR. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Second Minister of Finance, as the Chairman of BIBD and wife presented the scheme's prizes and donations to the orphans.
Also present to hand over donations to 3-thousand 103 orphans were Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and wife; as well as Awang Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim, Brunei Muara District Officer.
The donations were raised through the SMS Brunei Prihatin for the National Orphans Fund, which has collected 90 thousand 8 hundred and 3 dollars (BND90, 803). The SMS Brunei Prihatin is an annual project jointly organised by JAPEM, Radio Television Brunei, DST Communications Sendirian Berhad, and Progresif Cellular Sendirian Berhad since 2005. The project has since received encouraging response from the public, where all donations received being channelled fully to the fund.
