National-Level Islamic Hijrah New Year Celebration

The Hijrah New Year 1444 was celebrated in gratitude and taqwa at all mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide, 29th July late afternoon. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam graced the National-Level Islamic Hijrah New Year 1444 Celebration at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampung Kiarong.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by:

– Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar, Yang Di-Pertua of Adat Istiadat Negara;

– Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs as Chairman of the Executive Committee of Major Islamic Events of 1444 Hijrah and other executive committee members.

Also in attendance were His Majesty’s sons,

– His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office;

– His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; and

– His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

The National-Level Islamic New Year 1444 Hijrah celebration began with the recitation of End of 1443 Hijrah Year doa led by Yang Dimuliakan Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Mustapa bin Haji Murat. 21 cannon shots were fired to mark the arrival of the new year 1444 Hijrah.

The mass Fardhu Maghrib prayer was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar, who also led the 3 times reading of the 1444 Hijrah New Year doa.

The Mass Sunat Hajat prayer was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim. The mass recitation of Selawat Tafrijiyyah was led by students of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic School in Kampung Rimba.

The reading of Al-Quran verses was delivered by Awang Haji Hazwan bin Haji Salim, Champion of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Youth for 2022.

In a religious talk on Hijrah, Awang Muhammad Yusof bin Haji Abdul Majid, Senior Special Duties Officer at the Ministry of Religious Affairs highlighted the four personalities for the development of the country towards realising the national vision.

Doa Selamat was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti. The mass Fardu Isya’ prayer was led by Yang Dimuliakan Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Mustapa.

The Prophet Muhammad SAW’s Hijrah is full of struggle and sacrifice which will never be forgotten by all Muslims as it is the source of inspiration for Muslim struggles throughout the ages.
