‘No Plastic Bag Day’ On Wednesday Comes Into Force

The addition of Wednesday to the “No Plastic Bag Day” campaign begins yesterday, making it five days in a week without the use of plastic carrier bags in participating stores and shops. The move is aimed at realising the government’s aspiration in cutting down plastic bags by the 1st of January next year.

With the slogan “It takes a nation to end plastic pollution”, the campaign highlights the role and responsibility of all parties in ensuring the environment is free from pollution and plastic contamination. The addition of Wednesday to the campaign is carried out with the support of participating shops and supermarkets that have already taken part in the “Weekend without Plastic Bags” initiative since it was implemented years ago. The Department of the Environment, Parks and Recreations, JASTRE, Ministry of Development, is aiming to add other days of the week to the initiative in stages. Tuesday will be added to the list in October this year, and lastly, Monday without plastic bags will be implemented in December.
