His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office as Pro-Chancellor of University Brunei Darussalam, UBD, yesterday morning officially opened the Pesta Konvo UBD or UBD Convocation Festival 2019. The festival is organised in conjunction with the UBD's 31st Convocation which will be held on the 22nd of this month.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education; Datin Seri Paduka Doctor Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Minister of Education and Datin Doctor Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, Vice-Chancellor of UBD.
The ceremony began with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Suhaili bin Haji Mohiddin.
His Royal Highness then officially launched the Pesta Konvo UBD 2019.
His Royal Highness also signed the official opening plaque.
His Royal Highness proceeded to tour the exhibition which showcases 9 innovative and creative projects by UBD students and alumni. The exhibition highlights the youths' constructive ideas and the strong will to involve the young generation in various fields and industries in shaping the country's future innovations.
Among other things the exhibition displays a project by Awang Muhammad Mu'az bin Haji Imran in the form of an automated medicine dispenser which patients can use at home. Another showcase was 'UBD Digital Herbarium', the online database which includes images and information on plant species. The information enables botanists, researchers and other stakeholders to obtain the location of plants which can be used for medical purposes.
His Royal Highness then watched a combination of Korean traditional dance performance by the UBD Korean Culture Club and acrobatics by the UBD Parkour Club.
His Royal Highness also recieved a Pasambah.
Before departing, His Royal Highness watched Silat and traditional dance performances. Several programs have been arranged in conjunction with this year's Pesta Konvo UBD including a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony.
