His Royal Highness Prince Haji AlMuhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Deputy Sultan, this morning consented to officiate at the opening of the Department of Pharmaceutical Services Building, Ministry of Health in Kampong Madaras in Mukim Gadong. The building costing about 6.8 million dollars was built under the National Development Plan.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was welcomed by the Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and other senior officials.
The function started with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and the doa selamat lead by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.
His Royal Highness then consented to deliver the opening Sabda and signed the Department of Pharmaceutical Services Building Official Opening Plaque.
His Royal Highness consented to receive a pasambah in the form of a crystal three dimensional or 3D picture of the facility.
His Royal Highness the Deputy Sultan was later humbly invited to tour an exhibition on the Development and Pharmaceutical Services in Protecting Health and Public Safety’. His Royal Highness also consented to take a closer look at the Pharmaceutical Drug Production and Drug Quality Control Laboratory and the services provided by the Department of Pharmaceutical Services.
During the tour of the exhibition room, His Royal Highness consented to launch the Facebook page of Pharmaceutical Services. Among other things, the site is to provide the public easy access to and information on the pharmaceutical services, including the use of safe medicines.
From the exhibition hall, His Royal Highness consented to view the facilities and services available at the department. The Pharmaceutical Services are amongst the main services under the Department of Medical Services that continues to progress and grow in order to fulfil the needs of health care in Brunei Darussalam. The mission of the department is, "Excellence in service and pharmaceutical care; Towards achieving Healthy Citizens", while its goal is to "Provide pharmaceutical care services of high proficiency levels to ensure adequate, safe, quality, effective pharmaceutical supplies to the people of of Brunei Darussalam".
The Drug Quality Control Section provides pharmaceutical, microbiological, cosmetic, traditional medicine and Health Supplement Products laboratories. The Pharmaceutical Services Department also continues to implement programmes and quality initiatives to ensure top quality services. These include the Public Service Excellence Award; Quality Control Circle, QCC and Clients charter.
The 3-block building is built on a 2.5 acre site and accommodates the Drug Registry and Standard Reference Items Section, including the Drug Store, Pharmacy Enforcement Section including the Regulatory Sections, Drug and Poison Information Section and Drugs Administration Section. Other facilities include offices, conference room, meeting rooms and chemical store.
The Pharmaceutical Services Department has more than fifty officers and other staff. His Royal Highness also consented to mingle with the Pharmaceutical Professionals. Among the objectives of the department is to expand the existing drug regulatory control to a more comprehensive system, covering registration of drugs or medicines in aspects of quality, safety and effectiveness in order to protect consumers.
Before departing from the event, His Royal Highness consented to sign parchment and received the junjung ziarah or greetings from the department’s officers and staff. Also present at the official opening of the building were the Minister of Development, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman; the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar and the Second Minister of Finance at the Prime Minister’s Office, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abd Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim.
