Yesterday afternoon, the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in collaboration with the Empire Hotel and Country Club opened an Omani Food Festival at the hotel's Spaghettini Restaurant. The festival which is open until the 2nd of December is a showcase of Omani arts and culture with the aim of strengthening relations between the people of the two countries. The festival which is in conjunction with the 47th National Day of the Sultanate of Oman is open to the public from six to 10 in the evening.
His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashil Al-Maskari, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sultanate of Oman to Brunei Darussalam in a speech underscored the importance of food in constructing and shaping a country's character and how geographical attributes and the historical evolution of cuisines, help in the formation of a national identity.
The festival was officiated by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja (Retired) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Md Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. Also present were several Heads of Mission of Friendly Nations assigned to Brunei Darussalam, Doctor Haji Abdul Manaf Bin Haji Metussin, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and Datin Paduka Doctor Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The festival is a showcase of Omani cuisine and its unique mixture between modernity and tradition, through its rich and wide variety of dishes.
