The Land Transport Department, JPD continued its enforcement operations with inspections and patrols by JPD Law Enforcement Officers or through the joint "On The Move" operation with the Royal Brunei Police Force. The main aim of the operations is to ensure the public specifically road users to always obey road traffic laws and regulations.
As in previous years, JPD takes seriously the adherence of road traffic laws and regulations for vehicle drivers either private or commercial and public or goods transportation. In the first half of this year alone, a number of road traffic laws and regulations offences have been recorded through the "on the move" operation, among them :-
i) 9 drivers were issued compound fines and 12 demerit points for the offence of using the mobile phone while driving.
ii) 2 drivers were issued compound fines for not wearing seatbelts while driving, compared to 17 drivers issued with compound fines in the first six months of last year.
Meanwhile, monitoring is still carried out by JPD on heavy vehicles and trailers parked at prohibited areas. Last Monday, a heavy vehicle driver of foreign nationality from BRUNEI TRANSPORTING COMPANY was issued a 50 dollar compound fine for the offence of parking a trailer at a prohibited area and endangering the public and other road users, which is at the roadside of Simpang 845 in Kampung Jangsak. Meanwhile, a monitoring session conducted last Thursday found a number of heavy vehicles and trailers owned by D and J TRANSPORT SERVICES and BRUNEI TRANSPORTING COMPANY have committed the same offence.
Any complaints can be made through Talian Darussalam 123 or through WhatsApp, 8333123 or go to the website 'www.123.gov.bn' with clear information on the details of the vehicle, driver and area involved.
