Towards instilling public awareness on safety in the water, the Beach Safety Task Force held a programme called 'Open Water Survival'. The programme is hoped to train participants on safety aspects while at the beach. The 10 government secondary school students who completed the second series of the programme received their appreciation certificates yesterday morning.
The certificates were presented by Retired Colonel Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said, Director of National Disaster Management Centre, NDMC and Acting Director of Fire and Rescue. The function ran concurrently with a briefing delivered by Fire and Rescue Station Officer Awangku Mohd Ali Rahman bin Pengiran Haji Salleh, Public Relations Officer and Awang Mohd Rizan bin Doktor Haji Abdul Latif, the President of Beach Bunch Brunei. The briefing among other matters touched on the main duties of the Fire and rescue Department as well as information and public awareness in practising a cautious attitude while at the beach and river.
