Regional IP laws, regulations and systems are keeping up with technology and innovation in today's world and today's society. Given the importance of intellectual property rights protection, there is a growing recognition of the importance of systematically informing the public on the role of IP in their daily life as well as in achieving economic goals and developmental aspirations. This was highlighted by Pengiran Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, the Acting Permanent Secretary for Energy and Industry at the Energy and Industry Department, while officiating the 55th Meeting of the ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation, AWGIPC and Related Meetings, yesterday morning at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.
Also present was Doctor Freddy Harris, the Chairman of the meeting and Director General of Directorate General of Intellectual Property of Ministry of Law and Human Rights. The 4-day meeting aims to discuss and address intellectual property issues and to exchange views and updates on ASEAN priorities on intellectual property for 2018. The meeting is conducted by the Energy and Industry Department, and is attended by delegates from ASEAN Member States and officials representing their respective Intellectual Property Offices. The meeting is also participated by IP representatives from Dialogue Partners, namely Japan, South Korea and China.
