Opening Of Energy Theme Week

Several initiatives have been taken in advancing the integration of the energy efficiency concept, including the energy auditing programme. According to the Minister of Energy, the introduction of the Energy Efficiency Standards and Labelling Order, SLO 2021 aimed to promote and ensure the use of energy-efficient electrical appliances and products in the country. This among others will help achieve the aspiration to reduce energy intensity to 45% against the base year of 2005 by 2035.

It will also be beneficial to consumers as it will help reduce their electricity bills through reduced electricity consumption. Speaking during the Opening of ‘Energy Theme Week’ for the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition, MICE 2021, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Md. Hussein said to date, Brunei Darussalam has reached a renewable energy installed capacity of about 4.9 Megawatt. The theme of ‘Energy Transition: Towards a Sustainable Future’ is in line with the Ministry of Energy’s Strategic Plan 2020-2025 under ‘Strategic Objective 3: Green Energy’, which calls for a long-term energy security and sustainability in the country.

The event were jointly-officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism AND Minister of Energy. This week, Brunei MICE showcases the latest technological innovation on renewable energy and energy efficient. Also held are several forums and symposiums that among other discussed on Renewable Energy Policy and Development.

Market Engagement Session

Through the digital platform, it will help streamline the process of monitoring the growth and quality of carbon sinks in Brunei Darussalam. This was introduced during the ‘Market Engagement’ session for Provision of a Carbon Footprint Tracking Application and Tree Planting and Maintenance Services project. The session which was held yesterday morning at the International Convention Centre in Berakas was organised by Shell LiveWIRE Brunei, in conjunction with the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition, MICE.

Among the panellists were the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat, BCCS and Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, JASTRe from Ministry of Development, as well as Darussalam Enterprise, DARe. The project aims to manage more easily the domestic carbon emissions, thus supporting Brunei in achieving its goal of becoming a low-carbon and climate resilient nation while preserving a sustainable environment. The mobile phone application is expected to be broadcast by November this year. Among those present were Dayang Hajah Rosita binti Haji Hassan, Brunei Shell Petroleum, BSP In-Country Value Manager and Chairman of Shell LiveWIRE Brunei and Shirley Sikun, BSP Head of Energy Transition.
