The Souq Al-Qudwah Expo in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 73rd birthday celebration is hoped to provide an opportunity to build up self-esteem capacity in independent entrepreneurship capability among the target community of the tithe recipient asnaf group. It is also extended to the recipients of welfare assistance and the differently abled as well as youths who are seeking employment. The opening of the Souq Al-Qudwah Expo themed "Memperkasa Usahawan Penerima Asnaf Zakat" or Empowering Tithe Asnaf recipient Entrepreneurs, took place yesterday afternoon at the Conference Hall of the Islamic Da'wah Centre in Kampong Pulaie.
The expo was officiated by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs. Also present was Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs.
At the function, 9 people comprising participants of the BIBDSEED 1st Cohort - 2018 received the Tithe Fund Distribution Certificate, followed by the Appointment Certificates of the Muallafprenuers Consortium Governance Committee members. The function ran concurrently with the launch of the Muallafpreneurs Consortium and video presentation showing the new convert entrepreneurs' activities.
After officiating the Souq Al-Qudwah Expo, Yang Berhormat Pehin took a closer look at the exhibits at the parking area of the Darul Huda Building. 60 entrepreneurs comprising 40 tithe asnaf and welfare aid recipients as well as 20 entrepreneurs under the BIBD SEED first and second cohorts comprising single mothers and the less fortunate took part in the 4-day expo. This is a 'Whole Nation Approach' initiative and effort with the collaboration of various government agencies comprising the Brunei Islamic religious Council, Community Development Department, Youth Development Centre and Pusat Bahagia, supported by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam through a smart understanding programme with the Islamic Da'wah Centre.
Yang Berhormat Pehin then officiated the opening of the Al-Qudwah Shop at the lobby of Darul Huda Building. The shop is operated by the Muallaf Asnaf Entrepreneurs who are the Muallafpreneurs Consortium members. The expo is open from 9 in the morning until 9 at night. Various side-line activities are also lined up during the expo, including a motivational talk and BIBD Entrepreneurship Clinic. A shuttle bus service is also provided for the public at the Indoor Stadium parking area in Berakas.
