The atmosphere at the Bandar Seri Begawan Royal Wharf was lively with the presence of over 250 fishing enthusiasts taking part in a Fishing Challenge yesterday. The first ever such activity held in conjunction with the Bandarku Ceria Programme was organised by the Kampung Panchor Mengkubau National Housing Scheme Kampung Consultative Council.
The event was officially launched by Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy bin Ahmad, a member of the Legislative Council.
Prior to the launch, Yang Berhormat, in his speech, said such an activity could enhance the participants' fishing skill. Three categories were held. Besides the fishing challenge, a sales bazaar was also held to further enliven the atmosphere.
Fishing Challenge aimed to give the participants the chance to join the weekend joyful recreational activities, besides further enliven the location for the event. The activity also received an encouraging response from fishing enthusiasts who wanted to put their fishing skill to a test.
Awang Mohd Alizan bin Haji Jaafar emerged the champion in the category for the Heaviest Fish caught, with his catch weighing 875 grammes. Meanwhile, the winner in the Fastest Catch category was Awang Mohd Zul Azri bin Haji Abdul Rashid. The participants found the event very exciting and hoped it could be held every month. It could also become a sport tourism activity, said one of them.
