The opening of the 500 hectares paddy planting project in Kandol in the Belait District is one of the efforts of His Majesty's government to increase the country's rice production and self-sufficiency and ensure food security in rice supply. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism made the remarks at the Doa Selamat ceremony for the Paddy Planting Project.
The ceremony continued with a briefing by Awang Haji Salleh bin Haji Karim, Acting Deputy Director General of Public Works as a member of the Project Technical and Infrastructure Committee. To ensure the success of the large scale project, the management of the paddy planting will be opened to the private sector including Government-linked companies. Also present were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Ghafar, Minister of Development, Dato Seri Paduka Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Acting Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance And Economy, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Moksin, Deputy Minister of Development and Awang Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Awang Mumin, Member of the Legislative Council.
