One thousand unit of terrace houses under the Phase 2 of the Kampung Lugu National Housing Scheme Project are currently under construction and expected to be completed by early 2023. Valued at over 108 million dollars, the project under the 11th National Development Plan is built on a 165-hectare site.
With a floor space of 102 square metres, each terrace unit is equipped with master bedroom en-suite, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a living room and a kitchen. The provision of resilient and affordable housing is in line with the vision of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Wawasan Negara 2035 - high quality of life for the country's citizens and residents. COVID-19 has caused project delays. To date, 40 per cent of the construction process has been completed.
The project is divided into two phases. Phase 2A, the construction of one thousand houses equipped with infrastructures such as water, electricity, roads, sewerage and telecommunication. Meanwhile, Phase 2B is a continuation of the construction of one thousand houses in Phase 2A which covers earthworks on 86-hectare site. The Ministry of Development in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and Economy will continue to explore alternatives for the production of more resilient housing including using the Public Private-Partnership method, PPP or through the Housing Developer Scheme method by providing potential land sites for development.
