The government has formed an Authority called the Temburong District Development Authority which will formulate policies and the direction of Temburong District's development. The Authority is jointly chaired by the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy, and its members comprising several Cabinet Ministers and Legislative Council members. The Minister of Development disclosed the matter during the Muzakarah or Discussion session between the Ministry of Development and Legislative Council Members at the Public Works Department Headquarters yesterday morning.
According to Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, the authority has been formed to take into account the potential for Temburong District's development and progress in order to improve the country's economic growth upon the completion of the bridge project connecting the Brunei Muara and Temburong districts late next year. Yang Berhormat said the authority will formulate policies for Temburong District's Development and assist in realising the objectives and direction for the district's development by taking into account the priorities found in the district.
Touching on water tariffs, the Minister of Development said the government will introduce a new water usage tariff with the installation of prepaid-based smart meters. Yang Berhormat added the measure will be implemented in stages starting next year, and roadshows regarding the matter will be held in the near future for members of the public.
The Minister of Development also touched on the Authority for Building Control and Construction Industry, ABCi and the Housing Development Department which are made as a Statutory Body. Yang Berhormat explained that all these new approaches and changes are in the process of implementation, and aim to enhance the management and administration of the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The discussion session was attended by members of the Legislative Council led by Yang Berhormat Dayang Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Awang Haji Abdul Rahman. Yang Berhormat, in her speech, expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Ministry of Development to develop the country especially in the construction industry and development planning. Also present was Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Deputy Minister of Development.
The briefing on the Ministry of Development was delivered by Dayang Doctor Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak, Permanent Secretary for Planning, Land Use and Environment at the Ministry of Development. The session acts as a platform to share and exchange ideas between both sides regarding issues related to the Ministry of Development which are often raised such as infrastructure and its management, including maintenance, repair and upgrading of the government's physical assets.
