The COVID-19 outbreak has sparked society's care and attention to take precautionary measures from the aspects of health and personal care. Even before the detection of the first COVID-19 case in the country, the Ministry of Health has advised the public to implement good health practices at all times. This includes giving guidance on the use of virus prevention kits including the use of face masks as well as alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
On the use of face masks, the Ministry of Health has shared the correct ways of using it. There are various types of masks that are being sold including surgical face masks, paper and cloth masks. However, only surgical face masks are recommended for use in the prevention of respiratory infections.
Meanwhile, a number of shop owners and the public have taken the initiative not to touch any cash or coins while making payments at shops, as a precautionary measure towards the virus infection.
A number of restaurants in the country has also taken the initiative by providing hand sanitizers for customers use as a reminder to always ensure hands are always clean before and after eating. However, it is recommended to frequently wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitizers as well as avoid from touching the face, nose and mouth. The Ministry of Health also advises individuals who are not well to avoid from being in a place that is the public's focus and to use face masks, if it is unavoidable.
The Department of Competition and Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Economy, also advises vendors and private clinics NOT to take advantage of the situation by increasing the price of face masks as well as hand sanitizers. Apart from that the public is hoped to obey the orders issued by the relevant Ministries so that the virus outbreak can be curbed.
