The country is literally on the threshold of the 71st Birthday of His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. The joy, excitement and anticipation are becoming more evident as people throughout the nation prepare for the important and happy occasion. The capital and other towns in the country are decorated with beautiful and colourful arches, billboards, and lights making the surroundings more lively and attractive.
A look at the capital Bandar Seri Begawan shows an arch adorned with the words, "Allah Lanjutkan Usia Baginda Sultan Dalam Iman dan Takwa" or 'May Allah bestow longevity with faith and piety to His Majesty." It is both a prayer and an expression of gratitude to Allah the Almighty.
The billboards erected by the government agencies and private companies also display prayers for the Monarch that include "Allah Lanjutkan Usia Baginda Sultan Memerintah Dengan Adil Lagi Bijaksana", "Allah Peliharakan Sultan Dan Negara" and " Ya Allah, Lanjutkan Usia Baginda Sultan Memimpin Negara Makmur Sejahtera". All are supplications to Alllah the Almighty for His Majesty's Longevity and the country's security and prosperity. They also depict the people's strong support and unity in making His Majesty's birthday celebration lively and successful.
From the 1st until the 31st of the month, the main gateways of Bandar Seri Begawan are decorated with colourful banners, flags and lights. Government and business premises display banners with portraits of His Majesty. The National Flags are hoisted on the buildings as well as private homes. The beautiful atmosphere is the fruition of the people's deep affection and consolidated efforts in enlivening and glorifying the birthday anniversary of their beloved Monarch.
The night scene is awash with the brightness of colourful neon lights that reflect happiness and cheer. Nine days from now, Bruneians in the country and abroad will celebrate His Majesty's 71st Birthday. The 15th of July is a very significant date and meaningful day to the country's citizens and residents. It is the day when they all rejoice and pray for the best of everything for their beloved ruler and leader.
