The continuous heavy rains that occurred in early December last year has resulted in flash floods causing road access to be cut off and damages to houses in twenty three villages in the Temburong District. In order to alleviate the burdens of the flood victims, a presentation of government financial assistance to two hundred victims was held yesterday afternoon at the National Service Programme Training Camp in Batu Apoi, Temburong.
The financial assistance was presented by Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. Also present were Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Emran bin Haji Sabtu, member of the Legislative Council and Awang Haji Amer Hamzah bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Zakaria, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
During the floods, the Community Development Department, JAPEM also provided aid in the form of packaged food and rations to the flood victims. A number of recipients from a number of affected villages expressed their gratitude and thanks to the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the assistance given.
