Over a thousand complaints were received by the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, DEPS, Ministry of Finance and Economy since the Consumer Protection, Fair Trading Order, 2011 was enforced in January 2012. Among the complaints was the issue of price increase and price difference for the same items.
DEPS in its press release explained that the complaint on the difference in prices of the same items however are not included under the scope of the Order. Several factors affecting prices among supermarkets and retail shops include cost of business operations and marketing. The public is advised to use the “PenggunaBijak” mobile application which provides information on price comparison.
