Quran Reading Competition

Awang Abdull Muin bin Haji Abdul Hamid from Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA and Dayangku Fauziah Nadhirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri from Universiti Brunei Darussalam, UBD, emerged as champions in their categories at the Quran Reading Competition Among the Region's Institutions of Higher Learning in conjunction with the 9th Convocation Festival of UNISSA. The musabaqah or competition took place at the International Convention Centre in Berakas yesterday afternoon.

Present at the event was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education. This year's competition witnessed the participation of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning namely Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, USIM, Universitas Islam Malang, UNISMA, and Fatoni University, Thailand. Also present were Doctor Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary for Higher Education at the Ministry of Education, Doctor Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary For core Education at the Minisry of Education, Doctor Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Rector of UNISSA, Datin Doctor Dayang Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, Vice-Chancellor of UBD and Awang Haji Adi Syarmin bin Haji Md Taib, Acting VCice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei.

Prizes were presented by the Minister of Education. Second place winner in the Qari or male category was Awang Muhammad Umar Syazuli bin Mohd Tahir from USIM, while third place went to Awang Muhammad Nur Asynawi bin Awang Asli from Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB. In the Qariah or female category, the runner-up was Dayang Siti Aisyah binti Baain from USIM, and third place was won by Dayang Ning Majidatul Wahidah binti Haji Abdul Wahid Fauzi Sirot from UNISMA.
