Ramadhan Observance: Emphasis on Spiritual and Moral Integrity During Fast

Bandar seri begawan: Fasting, as prescribed by Syara', involves abstaining from activities that nullify the fast from dawn to dusk, accompanied by the necessary intention. However, a fast that is cherished by Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala extends beyond mere compliance with fiqh or Islamic jurisprudence, encompassing the preservation of morals as well. Rasulullah Sallahu 'Alaihi Wassalam, in the hadith, emphasizes that fasting serves as a protective shield for Muslims, safeguarding them from sins and Hellfire. It also nurtures patience and helps restrain one's desires. This message was underscored in the Friday Sermon titled 'Welcome Ramadhan.'

According to Radio Television Brunei, the sermon highlighted that a prevalent trend during Ramadhan is breaking the fast outside the home, whether at food stalls, restaurants, or recreational areas. Nevertheless, there are crucial considerations to heed when breaking the fast in such settings. It is important to perform the fardhu prayer on time, ensuring that one does not become preoccupied with eating to the point of missing the prayer. Additionally, performing the Sunat Tarawih prayers is significant, as this prayer can only be observed during the nights of Ramadhan. The sermon urged individuals to seize this opportunity throughout the holy month to engage in these prayers, alongside reading Al-Qur'an, spending time at the mosque, and increasing other acts of worship.

Furthermore, the sermon advised against makruh acts such as overeating and emphasized the importance of avoiding food wastage. Lastly, it stressed the need for wearing appropriate attire that upholds a person's modesty. Through these practices, individuals can enhance their spiritual and moral integrity during the observance of Ramadhan.
