His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamad Alam, yesterday morning attended a reception hosted by the resident Heads of Diplomatic Missions assigned to Brunei Darussalam. The function held in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 72nd Birthday Celebration took place at the Royal Berkshire, Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club in Jerudong.
Upon arrival, His Majesty and Her Majesty were greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, His Excellency Doctor Fahad Mashary Al-Thafiri, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Kuwait to Brunei Darussalam as the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, High Commissioners and Ambassadors of friendly nations to Brunei Darussalam and wife.
Accompanying Their Majesties at the function were His Majesty's son and sister; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab-Rahaman; AND Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Also in-attendance was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar.
His Excellency Doctor Fahad Mashary Al-Thafiri in his welcoming address expressed his appreciation to His Majesty for kindly consenting to grant the Diplomatic Corps another wonderful occasion to extend their greetings.
His Majesty and Her Majesty received a Pasambah in the form of "Ancestry Chart" or genealogy of the Sultans of Brunei on sandblasted Glass.
The function portrays the deep respect and appreciation of the envoys to His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri as well as the royal family, the government and the people of Brunei Darussalam for the good hospitality, respect and friendship received.
Members of the Diplomatic Corps also expressed their hope that Brunei Darussalam will continue to enjoy peace, progress and prosperity under His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam wise leadership.
Since attaining independence, the country has established diplomatic relations with more than 160 countries throughout the world. Such bilateral relations has been strengthened and enhanced from year to year. The country has also achieved progress and plays its role according to capabilities and importance including the participation in ASEAN, United Nations, UN, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC and others.
The country's policy of continuously practising goodwill with foreign nations, respecting the sovereignty of every country, acknowledging the equality of all countries regardless of size, no interfering with the internal affairs of every country, choosing a peaceful way in cultivating any issues and cooperating for mutual interests, has ensured the country's success in further strengthening and solidifying the existing relations.
