Brunei Darussalam and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan enjoy cordial brotherly relations and have several bilateral agreements including a joint ministerial commission and a joint defence working group. The matter was highlighted by Mr. Ahmed Ali Sirohey, Acting High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the country at the reception in conjunction with the Republic's 79th Independence Day. The function took place on 23rd March night at the Empire Hotel and Country Club in Jerudong.
Representing the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the ceremony was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development.
In his speech, Mr. Ahmed Ali Sirohey, said that the Brunei Investment Company is one of the successes achieved by the two countries. He added, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan thanks the Government of His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the provision of funds for the Foreign Service Academy dormitory building and hosting a small Pakistani community in the country. Brunei Darussalam and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan established diplomatic relations in 1984. Also present was Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Deputy Minister of Development.
