Reciprocal Visits to Enhance Relations and Seek Forgiveness

Reciprocal visits during Hari Raya Aidil Fitri can foster better relations. Visiting one another is much advocated by Islam not only during celebrations but also at any unspecific time and the hosts are recommended to welcome their visitors because the guests bring blessings to the family and home.

Islam encourages its ummah to improve or enhance relations amongst them. According to the firman or words of Allah the Almighty in al-Quran's verse of al-Hujurat, "Verily, the Mukmins or true faithfuls are relatives so pacify your brothers and be faithful to Allah so that you are blessed." This is in line with the intention of reciprocal visits to enhance relations and seek forgiveness. Islam also defines certain codes or ethics for people wishing to visit relatives or neighbours and that the guidance of both al-Quran and sunnah should be followed in celebrating Hari Raya Aidil Fitri. Awang Haji Rajid bin Haji Muhammad Salleh, the Acting Director of the Islamic Da'wah Centre said non-Muslim relatives and friends are also welcome during Hari Raya open houses since it is an opportunity to introduce the Muslim culture and convey the message of da'wah or propagation of Islam. He advised visitors not to take food which they would not eat and to inform their hosts properly if they were leaving, especially if it was time to pray.
