Yang Berhormat Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, the Minister of Communications also revealed the increase in road accidents as reported by the Royal Brunei Police Force as well as the Brunei Insurance and Takaful Association (BITA).
According to Yang Berhormat Awang Abdul Mutalib, a total of 3 thousand 3 hundred and 75 cases were recorded in 2016, compared to 3 thousand 5 hundred and 52 in 2017. From the figures, 2 thousand 6 hundred 84 cases were reported by the Royal Brunei Police Force, while 868 minor accidents were reported by BITA. In 2016, 53 percent decrease in road fatalities were found in overall recorded accident compared to 2015. However, the figure rose to 71 percent in 2017 with 29 fatalities, in comparison to 2016. The worrying situation requires firm initiatives by various parties towards MKKJR strategic direction.
