With the operational of Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Plant at Pulau Muara Besar by end of this year will contribute towards a secure supply of domestic petroleum product and will process a capacity of 175 thousand barrels of crude oil per day with a production of 8 million tonnes a year. While, 12 thousand barrels of oil are for the domestic needs.
According to the Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry, the Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Plant will open about 1 thousand 600 direct employment opportunities, in which 50 percent or 800 posts are for the locals and this number will continue to increase to 90 percent. All efforts are carried out to develop the Energy and Industrial sectors. The generating of job opportunities as a whole is hoped to be increased to 45 thousand of cumulative employment opportunities between 2019 and 2024, which is a total of 7 thousand 500 job opportunities annually, compared to 6 thousand 565 vacancies registered at Job Centre last year. The number is expected to contribute in reducing the number of unemployment to 6 per cent by 2024.
