Several Rural Areas Inundated

Several rural areas in Tutong District are inundated, following the recent continuous heavy rainfall. Water level at rivers increased and overflowed into areas of Kampung Benutan; Kampung Rambai; Kampung Ukong; Kampung Kuala Ungar/Bangkuru; and parts of Kampung Panchong and Kampung Layong. Several houses are flooded, and a number of roads are inaccessible by normal vehicles and four-wheel drive.

According to a press release by the Tutong District Office on the issue, several actions have been taken including monitoring water level at affected areas recorded by the Fire and Rescue Department. Water level monitoring has been carried out since the heavy rains started early this month, and currently the flood level is still under control. The Tutong District Office together with agencies and grassroot leaders continue to monitor the water level from time to time.

To facilitate transportation for affected residents, the Royal Brunei Armed Forces trucks are placed at Jalan Layong; Simpang 4 Panchong; Jalan Utama Rambai and Simpang 3 Rambai – Kuala Ungar and Merimbun. Other measures taken include arranging food rations through the assistance of grassroot leaders at affected villages. Currently, food ration distribution from the Tutong District’s Department of Community Development, JAPEM is carried out for several houses that are affected. The Tutong District Office reminds village residents to be vigilant and ensure the safety of the properties.
