Signing Ceremony of the Teaching Workforce for UBD-FPT Global Centre

The UBD-FPT Global Centre's Teaching Abroad Programme is a collaborative programme between Universiti Brunei Darussalam and FPT University, Viet nam which is based in Da Nang. The UBD-FPT Global Centre is the first overseas campus for UBD, with the main objective of becoming a leading English Language teaching training centre in ASEAN. Under the new agreement, 13 teachers will be sent to teach at the centre. The Agreement Signing ceremony was held this morning at UBD in Kampung Rimba.

Speaking at the ceremony, Datin Doctor Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, the Vice-Chancellor of UBD said that the programme provides an opportunity for the teachers and local graduates to be trained and given experiential exposure in order to make them marketable individuals. It is also in line with the desire of the government of Viet Nam to make Da Nang as the first in the country to be a fluent English speaking and start-up city. She added that the programme is also hoped to provide a number of positive impact to Universiti Brunei Darussalam, UBD specifically and Brunei Darussalam in general.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education. The establishment of the 'UBD-FPT Global Centre' can help to support the country's economic development, promote its contributions to the ASEAN community and improve the competitiveness of ASEAN. Its establishment also represents Universiti of Brunei Darussalam's internationalisation initiative, which is hoped to improve the varsity's academic profile and reputation.

Also present were Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Education; Doctor Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Permanent Secretary for Core Education at the Ministry of Education; Doctor Haji Azman bin Haji Ahmad, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Higher Education and Dayang Nadiah Lee Siew Hoon binti Abdullah, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Core Education at the Ministry of Education.
