Brunei Darussalam continues to strengthen its long-standing ties with the Russian Federation, with the signing of a Memorandom of Understanding (MoU) between the National Security Committee of Brunei Darussalam and the National Security Council of the Russian Federation, particularly on bilateral security cooperation.
Signing on behalf of Brunei Darussalam was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yusof, the Second Minister of Defence in his capacity as the Chairman of the National Security Committee, while signing on behalf of the Russian Federation was His Excellency Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary to the National Security Council of the Russian Federation. Prior to the signing ceremony, Yang Berhormat Pehin also held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Nikolai Patrushev to discuss matters of security cooperation, as well as regional and global security.
Yang Berhormat Pehin is in Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan, Russian Federation to attend the 10th International Meeting of High-Ranking Officials Responsible for Security Matters. The meeting is attended by ministers, deputy ministers and senior officials responsible for security-related matters from 119 countries and the United Nations. Yang Berhormat Pehin will also deliver a statement on matters relating to international cooperation to counter the spread of terrorist and self-radicalization ideologies, as part of Brunei Darussalam's commitment towards strengthening efforts to combat propaganda that advocate extremist violence. Also present at the meeting were His Excellency Dato Paduka Haji Haini bin Haji Hashim, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Russian Federation and Retired Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Haji Muhamad Sazali bin Pengiran Haji Yakob, Permanent Secretary for Security and Enforcement at the Prime Minister's Office.
