Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, who is also the Minister-in-charge of Cybersecurity, Brunei Darussalam has attended the Singapore International Cyber Week, SICW, held in Singapore. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof is leading a delegation of senior officials from the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications; Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry, AITI, and IT Protective Security Services Sendirian Berhad, ITPSS.
SICW 2019 was officially opened by His Excellency Mr Teo Chee Hean, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security of Singapore. In his opening remarks, His Excellency Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security of Singapore has, among other matters, emphasised the importance to address and mitigate cyber threats through international partnerships, regional collaboration as well as domestic engagements. Panel sessions were held following the Opening Plenary of SICW 2019. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib participated as a panel speaker in Session 1 on "Securing the Smart Digital Future", alongside his counterpart from Malaysia and speakers from France, United Kingdom and United States of America.
In the panel discussion, the Minister shared Brunei Darussalam's perspective on the challenges in securing the smart digital future. He also shared his thoughts in facing and addressing key challenges of cybersecurity, amongst others, including the need to set the policy ownership, identify the Critical Information Infrastructures, CII, adhering to the standards and procedures at times of cyber-attacks and to develop further on capacity building especially to nurture the growth of more cybersecurity professionals. Also emphasised by the Minister was the importance of collaboration at national, regional and international levels.
The ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity 2019, AMCC, was also held as part of SICW 2019. The AMCC is an annual Ministerial-level dialogue for ASEAN ICT and Cybersecurity Ministers to discuss key cybersecurity issues and facilitate greater cyber cooperation among ASEAN Member States.
Along the sidelines of the AMCC, Yang Berhormat also held informal meetings with his counterparts from Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand to exchange views on Digital Economy, cybersecurity policy and law, 5G pilot projects and smart nation initiatives. The informal meetings also discussed initiatives to strengthen the bilateral relations in the field of infocommunications and cybersecurity with the respective countries.
With the theme 'Partnerships for Trust and Confidence', SICW 2019 is held to provide an integrated platform for international and regional policy makers, business leaders, industry experts and academia to engage in dialogues and knowledge on trusted and secure cyberspace.
