Towards preparing Brunei Darussalam as a Smart Nation, the Ministry of Transport and Info-communications is taking on a comprehensive approach to maximize the potential of the digital economy. The Minister of Transport and Info-communications said this approach comes in four main aspects namely, Infrastructure, Cyber security, Agility and Engagement. This matter was stated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohammad Yusof at the opening ceremony of the Smart Future Forum. The event took place yesterday morning at The Empire Hotel and Country Club in Jerudong.
Touching on infrastructure improvement, the Minister of Transport and Info communications said the key component in order to generate sustainable growth, productivity and facilitate businesses. Yang Berhormat added for transformation towards a smart nation to take place, a very robust telecommunications infrastructure is a critical requirement.
Pengiran Haji Mohd Zain bin Pengiran Haji Abd Razak as Chief Executive Officer Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam, AITI, in his welcoming remarks among others said AITI will continue to develop partnership with relevant stakeholders and industry players to harness technology and promote innovation in smart future efforts to enhance public services and improve the quality of their lives.
The smart future forum aims to raise awareness on the benefits and opportunities of driving innovation and digital growth in Brunei Darussalam. With the theme "Innovation through Emerging Technologies", the smart future forum explores how innovation relies on technology in countless ways. The two day forum brings together experts and speakers from local and international organisations such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), Singapore's Smart Nation and Digital Government Office (SNDGO) and Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA), Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) as well as telecommunications companies. Also present was Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of Energy for Energy and Manpower and Industry as Chairman of AITI.
