Sovereign’s Parade of the Officer Cadet School

At this morning's Sovereign's Parade, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam commissioned 18 male Officer Cadets and 11 female Officer Cadets in the 15th Intake of the Officer Cadet School, Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces as Armed Forces Officers. His Majesty also awarded the Sword of Honour and other awards to Best Officer Cadets in each course.

Upon arrival at Defence Academy Parade Square, RBAF, His Majesty was greeted by Retired First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, Deputy Minister of Defence, and Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohammad Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the RBAF.

Shortly after arrival, His Majesty received the Royal Salute and inspected the Guard of Honour mounted by 29 officer cadets of the 15th Intake. Also joining in the parade were 34 Officer Cadets of the 16th intake who are currently undergoing training.

The Sovereign's Parade is a meaningful and valuable moment for the newly commissioned officer cadets. Their achievement is not only a matter of pride and honour to them but also a proud moment for their parents and guardians as well as family members.

The officer cadets underwent 52 weeks of training which started on the 22nd January last year. They were exposed to various military aspects aimed at equipping them with knowledge, faith and leadership skills. Their appointment as commissioned officers is a responsibility and trust that need to be shouldered with full commitment to become leaders and managers in the RBAF units.

His Majesty then awarded the commissioning of the officer cadets of the 15th Intake. His Majesty presented the Best Officer Cadet Award in each course. The Sword of Honour was awarded to Officer Cadet Dayang Raihana Samraa @ Lily binti Haji Abdul Rahman, who showed excellent achievement in all aspects.

Officer Cadet Dayang Wan Nurul Naszeerah binti Mohd Zainal Abidin Ariff was selected as the recipient of the Best Academic Award, based on her high academic achievement during the training. Best Military Skills Award was awarded to Officer Cadet Awang Haji Asri bin Haji Awang Anuar for his capability in the excellent adaptation of his theoretical learning into practical. Meanwhile, Officer Cadet Muhammad Rusyduddin bin Haji Awang Bungsu received the Best in Physical Training Endurance Award.

To seek blessings for the ceremony, Doa selamat was read by Lieutenant Commander Haji Ainolnizam bin Haji Ibrahim, Head of RBAF Religious Department. From the Parade Square, His Majesty proceeded to the Ceremonial Hall for a luncheon. At the ceremony, the Monarch received a Pasambah called 'Sautun Nida' which symbolises the fighting spirit to serve the country and nation. It is also symbolic of the start of a journey that requires patience, endurance and sacrifice holistically.

Also presented to His Majesty was the 'Buku Perjalanan 15' portraying the journey taken by the officer cadets throughout the 12-month training. Before being commissioned as a military officer, every officer cadet underwent training in military, leadership and religious knowledge so that they can physically lead as well as shape the spiritual individuality of their subordinates.

His Majesty also received junjung ziarah from all the newly commissioned officer cadets and their family members. Of the 29 commissioned officer cadets, 12 are Royal Brunei Land Force officers, 11 are Royal Brunei Air Force officers and 6 Royal Brunei Navy. The one-year training underwent enables officers to carry out bigger responsibilities and roles.

With the Sovereign's Parade, the number of RBAF's young military leaders has increased to instil trust and responsibility and at the same time contribute to the continuation of the RBAF leadership. In his titah at the sovereign's parade, His Majesty congratulated all parties involved especially parents and family members for their supports throughout the officer cadets' training.

His Majesty then signed the commemorative parchment. To further enhance the quality of training and skills of the officer cadets, the Officer Cadet School, Defence Academy RBAF, also conducted a joint training with the Officer Cadet School New Zealand and Urban Operation Training Package together with Officer Cadet School Republic of Singapore.

At the ceremony, His Majesty expressed his high appreciation and congratulation to the personnel of the Defence Academy, RBAF who have diligently trained and educated the officer cadets until they completed their training.
