Sunat Aidil Adha Prayer

As in other countries throughout the world, Brunei Darussalam celebrated the Hari Raya Aidil Adha with the calls of takbir and tahmid. The celebration began with the Sunat Aidiladha prayer at all mosques, surau and religious halls throughout the nation. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam joined the country's citizens and residents in performing the Sunat Aidiladha prayer at the Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, Kiarong, yesterday morning.

Upon arrival, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Yang Di-Pertua of Adat Istiadat Negara; Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Acting Minister of Religious Affairs; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doktor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti as well as members of the Ceremony's Executive Committee.

Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons and brother, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

The Sunat Aidiladha prayer was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.

Meanwhile, the Khutbah or Sermons were delivered by the State Mufti. The first sermon among other things touched on the obligation as a muslim to adhere to the commandments of Allah S.W.T. Every command has its own blessing and secret as what happened to Prophet Ibrahim and his son Prophet Ismail 'alaihima Shallatu Wassalam. The State Mufti added that the rites of sacrifice will remain until Judgement Day. With the rites, muslims will remember the decision made by Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Prophet Ismail 'alaihima Shallatu Wassalam. And more astounding is Prophet Ismail's preparedness to be sacrificed.

In the second sermon, the State Mufti explained about the sacrifice of assets through tithing, donating and giving of alms. The companions of the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W strictly adheres and obeys the command on the giving of tithe. Tithe, giving of alms and donating are seen as noble sacrifices.

Before leaving the main prayer hall of Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, His Majesty and other members of the Royal Family received junjung ziarah from the congregants.
