16 men were brought to the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate’s Court, on 4th August, to face charges under the Open Gambling House Act Chapter 28. Ten accused were fined according to their respective charges.
Mohammad Isa bin Idrus, Muhammad bin Adi and Aliuddin bin Abdullah, were each fined five thousand dollars or 5 months imprisonment in default. While, Saiful Rizal bin Sapry and Ajmal bin Baha were fined $2,500 or 3 months imprisonment in default.
Meanwhile, Masri bin Idrus, Fazri bin Ibrahim, Mohammad Yusri bin Sapar, Khairol Razimi bin Raimi and Ariahami bin Ibrahim, were each fined $1,500 or one month imprisonment. All the accused were given until 30th September 2020 to pay the fine.
2 cases were adjourned for further mention on later dates. The trial for Liew San Chooi was adjourned until 17th August 2020 and Md Shahrizal bin Uni pleaded not guilty and further mention of the case will be on 18th August 2020.
Meanwhile, 4 accused were minors and were given a stern warning by the Court. They were detained during a raid on gambling activities carried out by personnel of the Anti-Vice and Gambling Suppression Unit, together with the Housebreaking and Car Theft Investigation Unit, Criminal Investigation Department last month at a house in Jalan Jerudong Baru, Kampung Tanjong Nangka.
