More than 10,000 kilograms of durians such as monthong, chanee, musang king, kanyau and local durians will be produced by Syarikat Abd Manaf Haji Besar Dan Anak-Anak for the local market. The number are expected to increase three fold compared to two years ago which is 2,800 kilogram of durian worth more than $25,000.
The durian farm owned by Awang Abd Manaf bin Haji Besar was run at the Agricultural Development Area, KKP Sinaut in Tutong since 2007. Starting last year he was offered 4 hectares of additional land to increase the durian plantation. With the continuous assistance from the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism as well as his wife’s support, Awang Abd Manaf continues to ensure that yields produced from his company could meet the country’s demand. He added that he also attended various courses in and outside the country, such as Thailand, Malaysia and Bogor in Indonesia
Apart from producing durians, the company also produced other crops such as langsat, tarap and duku. Fruit production started in 2015. In 2018 alone, it produces 1,725 kilograms with worth value of $17,250.00. Meanwhile in 2019, 2,801.2 kilogram of fruits were produced worth $25,984.80. Awang Abd Manaf expressed his thanks to the Government of His Majesty especially the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism for the opportunity granted in running the agricultural site. He also thanked the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood for the continuous monitoring and advices provided specifically in the fertilization and durian crop maintenance.
