Tawaf Wida’, Farewell and Respects to the Holy City

This year's Haj has ended. The pilgrims came to Makkah with hearts full of happiness and syukur or gratitude to Allah. They leave with happiness to be back home as well as sadness at leaving the Holy Land. For the home bound Haj pilgrims, their final Haj ritual was the Tawaf Wida' or farewell tawaf before leaving Makkah Al-Mukarramah.

The Tawaf Wida' must be performed by Haj and umrah pilgrims leaving Makkah. It is a way of saying farewell to Masjidil Haram, Islam's holiest site. Haj pilgrims who perform the Tawaf Wida' do so with a feeling of sadness and supplicate may Allah give them other opportunities to return to Masjidil Haram and the Holy Land.
