During the Sovereign's Parade yesterday morning His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam commissioned as Military Officers, 73 officer cadets of the 18th intake of the Officer Cadet School, Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces. His Majesty also bestowed the Sword of Honour and several awards to the best Officer Cadets who performed exceptionally in various fields throughout the course.
Upon arrival at the Parade Ground, His Majesty was greeted by Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof Second Minister of Defence; and Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Commander of the RBAF. Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Captain (U) Prince 'Abdul Mateen.
Shortly after arriving, His Majesty consented to receive the royal salute and inspected the parade comprising 54 male and 19 female Officer Cadets commanded by Captain Abdul Qahhar bin Haji Abdul Mulok, Parade Officer.
The Sovereign's Parade is the culmination of the RBAF Officer Cadet School prestigious intensive military training that equips new Officer Cadets with knowledge, faith, discipline, professionalism and leadership skills. The future RBAF leaders underwent 52 weeks of military training that began on 29 January last year.
As the main pillar of national defence, the RBAF strives to enhance and update its capabilities not only in weaponry and equipment but also in skills, abilities, professionalism, and leadership quality. The Sovereign's Parade is evidence of the success achieved. The special moment was also witnessed by the Officer Cadets' parents and relatives.
His Majesty then commissioned the Officer Cadets of the 18th Intake. During the ceremony, His Majesty bestowed awards to the best Officer Cadets in various fields. The main award or the Sword of Honour was awarded to Officer Cadet (U) Wan Muhammad Hijazi bin Haji Yussof. The Award for Excellence from His Majesty is the highest honor for an Officer Cadet with the highest achievement in military, academic, physical and leadership training. th officer holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of the West of England, Bristol, United Kingdom.
The Best Academic Award was given to Air Officer Cadet Muhammad Ghazali bin Haji Suhaili, based on the best overall academic achievement throughout the course. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the Universiti Brunei Darussalam, UBD.
Officer Cadet Awangku Waffauddin bin Pengiran Ismail received the Best in Military Skills Award for outstanding achievement in all military skills subjects. Awangku Waffauddin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from UBD.
Meanwhile, Officer Cadet Mohammad Zulfitri bin Haji Zoferi, who holds a National Higher Diploma in Religious Studies, Shariah, KUPU SB, has been selected as the recipient of the Best Physical Endurance Training Award in recognition of outstanding achievement in physical training. Doa Selamat was read by Commander Haji Ainolnizam bin Haji Ibrahim, Head of RBAF Religious Department.
