A programme on understanding, respecting and upholding the importance and symbolism of the National Flag was held by the Information Department yesterday. The flag represents the sovereignty and identity of the country as well as patriotism, the race and religion. Hence it is the duty of the people to fly the National Flag during the country's auspicious and important celebrations. The programme held in conjunction with the 71st Birthday of His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in the Brunei Muara District took place at the Mohammed Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Serusop.
Attending the event was Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamdan bin Haji Abu Bakar, the Deputy Minister (for Security and Media) at the Prime Minister's Office. It began with the reading of Al-Quran by Awangku Adi Nazri bin Pengiran Haji Jofri.
The function continued with a special talk by Dr.Haji Adnan bin Haji Besar, the Acting Ra'es of Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB. Among other things, the talk highlighted the importance and significance of the National Flag that also symbolises the country's independence and prosperity as blessings and rewards from Allah the Almighty. Hoisting the National Flag signifies the people's undivided loyalty to the Monarch and country as well as their commitment to protect and defend the nation from undesirable elements.
Also attending the event were Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy Bin Ahmad, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Ali Bin Pengiran Maon, and Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Mohaimin Bin Haji Johari @ Jahari, Members of the Legislative Council and Awang Haji Mislee Bin Haji Abdul Karim, the Brunei Muara District Officer. The programme was intended to encourage and promote raising the National Flag during National celebrations by obeying the laws and regulations. It is also to support and and assist the efforts of government agencies to encourage the country's citizens and residents to hoist the National Flag.
