Various initiatives have been taken by the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to improve the literacy level and quality of teaching for children. The efforts include distribution of Early Literacy Packs under the collaboration of various ministries towards opening up the minds of parents and to raise awareness on the importance of reading from an early age. The Early Literacy Pack can educate and help infants to know the alphabet and numbers, and be equipped with knowledge and information at an earlier age. This was said by Yang Berhormat Dayang Khairunnisa binti Awang Haji Ash'ari, Member of the Legislative Council while officiating the Thought Festival, yesterday morning.
The Thought Festival is one of the efforts to promote literacy and critical thinking as well as raise awareness amongst the general public on different types of literacy through games, free talks and interactive activities such as workshops, reading clubs and dialogues with some of Brunei's social influencers. The festival was organised by Wira Wajid through the community works project known as School of Thought.
