Traveling Abroad For Citizens and Residents

The Minister of Home Affairs also stated that foreign nationals who travel to stay in the country temporarily for less than 90 days are required to obtain travel insurance which covers COVID-19 treatment coverage.

According to the Minister, outbound travel for citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam, especially for travel by air only, either to countries in the Travel Green List or countries not included in the list, are no longer required to apply for travel permission or ‘Exit Travel ‘from the Prime Minister’s Office. However, outbound travel is only allowed for citizens and residents who have obtained a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine or have completed two doses of COVID-19 vaccination within three months prior to the date of travel. Proof of vaccination status must be shown upon departure from the country.

Exceptions are granted for those who have a COVID-19 Recovery Certificate with a validity period of 90 days and children under the age of 18 provided they travel with an adult who qualifies for vaccination. Apart from that, for those who wish to travel abroad for a short-term basis with a period of less than 90 days is also required to obtain travel insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment coverage. For Brunei Darussalam’s citizens and permanent residents, it is also required to register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via online before traveling abroad through www.mfa.gov.bn to facilitate Brunei Darussalam representative offices abroad to provide assistance in emergencies and crises.
