The Tuna Processing Plant which belongs to Yamako Pacific Brunei Sendirian Berhad is located at the Fish Landing Complex in Muara.
It was officially launched by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. Awarded a license to operate a fish processing plant, the company commenced small scale operations in March this year, supported by specially trained local workforce. The company specialises in processing yellow-fin and skipjack tuna into high quality products that has already been accepted into the highly stringent Japanese market with plans to penetrate China, Europe and North America.
At the function, the Minister of Primary Resource customised with latest fishing technologies for sustainable tuna fishing in the Brunei waters. Owned by YP Nakhoda Sendirian Berhad, it aims to set the benchmark for local fishermen to follow suit and hopes others will take up the lucrative fishing opportunity. Also present were His Excellency Motohiko Kato, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam; Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Osman@Othman, member of the Legislative Council; Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and Awang Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.
