The Narcotics Control Bureau recently detained two local unemployed men, aged 28 and 32 during a raid on a house at Kampung Mumong Landless Indigenous Citizens Housing Scheme in Kuala Belait on suspicion of involvement in the misuse and trafficking of controlled drugs.
During an inspection, the Narcotics Control Bureau uncovered and seized plastic packets containing 64 gram of crystallized substances believed to be Methamphetamine, digital weighing device, monies and utensils used to consume drugs. The case is being investigated under Section 3A of the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA), Chapter 27 for the possession of controlled drugs for the purpose of trafficking that carries a minimum penalty of 5 years imprisonment and 5 strokes of the cane and maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane; Section 6(b) of MDA, Chapter 27 for the consumption of controlled drugs that carries a minimum penalty of imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of twenty thousand dollars or both; and Section 7 of MDA, Chapter 27 for the possession of utensils used for drug consumption that carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 3 years or a fine of ten thousand dollars or both.
