UNISSA and Department of Shariah Affairs MoU Signing

The Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA through Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU with the Department of Shariah Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs. The MOU includes framework of bilateral cooperation and collaboration in the sharing of knowledge, research and publications, workshops and courses as well as work placement especially in the field of halal. The signing ceremony took place at the Faculty of Agriculture, UNISSA Campus, Sinaut, Tutong District, 2nd February afternoon.

The signing of MOU was witnessed by Awang Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Rector of UNISSA. Signing on behalf of UNISSA was Pengiran Dr Hajah Norkhairiah binti Pengiran Haji Hashim, Director of Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre, while Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gemok, Acting Director of the Department of Shariah Affairs represented the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The ceremony ran concurrently with a special presentation titled Empowering Halal Food Products and Industry based on Maqasid Shariah by Associate Professor To’ Puan Dr Nizaita Omar, Adjunct Lecturer, Thayyiban Halal Research Centre, UNISSA.

Through the MOU, UNISSA and the Ministry of Religious Affairs can maximize the opportunity with their respective advantages in exploring the development of innovation in the manufacturing sector, the advancement of food science and technology, academic studies on current halal issues and fiqh muaasarah as well as confidence in Brunei’s halal certification.
