Vegetable Industry Output 2021: $25.06 Million

The country’s gross product value in crop industry increased by 14.29 percent, which is from 53.46 million dollars in 2020 to 61.10 million dollars in 2021. The vegetable and fruit sector is the largest contributor to the crop industry’s overall gross output in the past year.

Last year’s output value of the vegetable industry amounted to 25.06 million dollars. However, the output value of the sector recorded a decrease of point 3 per cent compared to 2020. Dayang Hajah Masliana Yuliah Binti Abdullah, the Acting Director of Agriculture and Agrifood said that this is due to a lack of farm workers, especially in conventional farms compared to high-tech farms. She added that the local vegetable and fruit commodity comprise tropical vegetables and fruits that are suitable to be grown in the country.

However, the output value in the fruit sector has increased to 19.99 million dollars last year compared to 14.02 million dollars in 2020. The value of multi-crop industry output increased by 37 percent from 3.56 million dollars in 2020 to 4.88 million dollars last year.

Meanwhile, the production value of paddy industry increased by 6.4 percent from 6.18 million dollars in 2020 to 6.58 million dollars in 2021.

Meanwhile, the value of cut flower industry output decreased by 1.3 percent from 0.05 million dollars in 2020 to 0.04 million dollars last year due to operators being less active during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
