Vegetable Plantation Can Generate Good Returns

The vegetable business can generate good returns. This was proven by Syarikat Perusahaan Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Ludin @ Jaludin, which earned 1 point 3-8 million dollars last year. The 14 year old company now has 10 staff.

Perusahaan Haji Mohd Salleh began its operation in 2004 on a 4 hectares site at the Agriculture Development Area, KKP in Kampung Betumpu Masin. The government has allocated additional 3 hectares of land at a different lot for the company. Meanwhile, 5 hectares of land is in full operation and the remaining 2 hectares are in the process of land clearing. Apart from the said farm, the company also plants fruits at 9 hectares site at the Agriculture Development Area in Labu Estate, Temburong under the name of Syarikat Hamnan Jaya.

Among the various types of vegetables are cucumber, cassava, sweet corn, ladies' finger, spinach, cabbage and several others. In 2015, the 5 hectares land was able to produce 2 hundred 56 metric tonnes and this increased to 4 hundred 96 metric tonnes by last year. The company's farm produce are available at several supermarkets and wholesale markets in the country. By further developing its production, the company hopes to cater to the local and export markets. The company will also participate in best farming practices programme organised by the Agriculture and Agrifood Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.
