Following the information on damage to the Telanai Flyover made viral through Whatsapp and Facebook, the Public Works Department, Ministry of Development in its press release explained that the information is false. In this regard, the public are reminded that the act of spreading information that is not true, false or created to cause public alarm or despondency shall be guilty of an offence and can be reported under the Public Order Act, Chapter 148.
The spread of false reports or false statements likely to cause public alarm can be sentenced to three years' imprisonment and a fine of $3,000.00.
