Visiting Kampong Ayer and Brunei River Cruise

From the Royal Regalia Museum, His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong the 16th of Malaysia proceeded to visit Kampong Ayer.

On arrival at the Bandar Seri Begawan Royal Wharf, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism and Awang Haji Misli bin Haji Abdul Karim, Brunei Muara District Officer. Accompanying His Majesty as Royal-In-Attendance was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz. Also present was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs as Minister-In-Attendance.

His Majesty began the visit with a cruise of the Brunei River on a special boat. During the cruise, His Majesty was briefed by Dayang Alizawani Alias of Anthony Tours Travel Agency Sendirian Berhad. Kampong Ayer is one of the biggest water settlements in the world.

After cruising the Brunei River, His Majesty visited the Cultural and Tourism Gallery. Officially opened on 19 August 2009, the gallery was established with the aim to make Kampong Ayer a main tourist attraction for foreign and local tourists. This is inline with His Majesty's aspiration to generate economic growth through tourism.

At the gallery, His Majesty watched traditional Brunei games - the Pasang and Congkak.

His Majesty also visited the residence of Awang Haji Ahmad bin Haji Bujang, a former Village Head of Kampung Lurong Sikuna to watch a traditional Brunei wedding and village activities such as the making of a local cake called penyaram. His Majesty also visited a villager's house in the area.
